Elvera (Hurlow) Blake was born in the Zimbabwean ( Rhodesia ) bush to missionary parents, who had come up from South Africa , and so from an early age was inspired by their example of complete commitment to serving God.
She spent many happy years running around barefoot underneath mango trees, watching out for poisonous snakes, and playing with little, brown, curly-haired friends. In 1956 her father came to the US for a two year course of studies, first at Walla Walla, WA, and then to the seminary which was then at Washington D.C. She graduated as a teacher from Helderberg College near Cape Town in South Africa and the University of South Africa (B.A. in Education) but not before meeting up with Ivan.
She has enjoyed being the wife of a pastor for over 34 years, but in Phoenix , AZ, in 1996, she was invited to enter ministry full-time. She enjoys pastoral work because she can teach and tell about Jesus all at the same time. For fun she would love to be with her grandchildren all day long. Well, just about.
