Minnetonka Christian Academy In the Eyes of a Student
September 2nd was the first day of classes for MCA. I was blessed and happy to meet with a student during her lunchtime to discuss her reflections of attending MCA. I want to thank Ken Rannow for arranging our time together, and Joe Perrone for allowing her to be late to Bible class.
Tell me a bit about yourself.
Kaitlyn Aberle. I will be 16 on October 14. I’m a sophomore and starting my 5th year at MCA. I’m also in gymnastics and soccer and have signed up to participate on the yearbook.
What is your earliest memory of MCA?
My first teacher was Mrs. Campanello in 6th grade. I also had her in 8th grade; so it was definitely easier the 2nd time around because I knew more about her teaching style.
What grade or teacher do you remember being the most influential for you, and why?
Mr. Brodis. He taught me in 7th & 8th grade and in High School Social Studies. I appreciate his different teaching style because I feel it is more laid back with a “hands on” approach. I think I like the majority of my teachers, but it’s definitely more fun when I get to see real life scenarios in action.
What is your favorite subject?
I like Art, especially now that I’m learning more techniques. I also enjoy working with the yearbook crew.
How do you think attending MCA has helped you?
I’ve learned to appreciate the Christian atmosphere and community outreach projects. I’ve found that I enjoy visiting with people; especially one-on-one opportunities. I don’t think that I could grow in a more encouraging environment than where I am at right now.
If you could give a message of encouragement to current MCA students, what would it be?
It's a bit of a cliché, but the idea of being yourself, and don't be intimidated by trying new things has really helped me enjoy school. I’d like to think that the MCA High School students as a whole are great for younger students to look up to; I think we are on the right track to where God is leading us this year.
If you could give a message of encouragement to MCA supporters, what would it be?
Students don’t often get the chance to personally know, or express appreciation to individual supporters, but I feel the atmosphere that is created at MCA has a lot to do with those that stick with us and help out in the many times of need. Since we are a smaller school there is definitely a family atmosphere that proves we can be “tight together”. I look forward to being able to graduate as a 12th grader at MCA. I think it will be a great accomplishment to finally see all the hard work that my school family has strived for.
