Living Your Faith
With time and living, naturally comes, a sagging and a wrinkling that pulls our faces down and puts furrows where they weren't before. Medical science offers a wonderful solution. Have a face lift!
With time and living, rush and run, stress and strain, there is a danger of a sagging of our spiritual lives that pulls our faith down and puts furrows in the most important relationship of all - our God relationship. There is nothing more healing than taking the time to study God's word. A faith lift is what is needed!
Our Faith Lift small group Bible study for women recently finished a seven week study of the book of Ephesians. What a life-changing delight it was to study this book that has been called, "the Switerland of the New Testament." Our Tuesday evenings are more than a Bible study, there is the immeasurable joy of meeting and making new friends, sharing and praying together, and the fun of fellowship. The format is informal and everyone's contributions and questions are welcome.
We learn tools that make study easier and more rewarding. The inductive method of study stresses self-discovery. This method teaches us to look at the whole before studying the parts. We color code meaningful words that help make the theme of each paragraph easy to find. We learn that "context is king"! There are three very important questions that are always in the backs of our minds as we read:
- What does it say? (look for the meaning)
- What does it say about God? (all Scripture teaches us something about God)
- What does it say about me? (this is where I apply the meaning to my own life and then ask how I practice and obey what God has revealed to me)
We keep in mind that the goal of all Bible study should be: "...a transformed life and a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ." (Kay Arthur)
When Faith Lift starts up again, Tuesday, September 9th, 6:45 p.m., we will be studying the book of Jonah. Until then, take a close look at yourself and if you are aware of some sagging, maybe a little lifting of the faith is what you need!
