"GO!"
I've started a sermon series based on the Bible book "Nehemiah." This coming Sabbath will be the second in the series with the title: "Let's Roll." (Suggestion: Read Nehemiah chapter two ahead of time.)
In connection with this sermon, consider our mission as followers of Jesus.
God instructed Moses, "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel out of Egypt ." (Exodus 3:10).
The command was, "Come and Go!"
Isn't that what Jesus commands us to do with the Gospel Message? We first come to God to receive the Gospel of forgiveness and eternal life. Then we go and share it with others.
Study the way the three crucial words in our mission appear in English. GOspel. GOd. Goal. Our GOal in life is to GO for GOd with the GOspel.
The Lord has equipped you with some spiritual gift to be used in your life goal. What is it? Have you heard His call for you to "Go?" Many times the call is to do something that may seem unrelated to giving the Gospel to someone? Mary poured perfume on Jesus' feet. Joseph from the Sanhedrin gave his tomb for Jesus to lie in. A little boy gave his lunch to Jesus. A man lent Jesus his donkey. You can help clean computers for the school. You can help clean and fix the school to prepare for opening day. You can help in a special Community Services project. You can help to volunteer in children and youth ministries, be a greeter, a Lay Pastor, a Pathfinder leader, a CHIP leader and helper, an ALPHA leader and helper, invite someone to church, or pray for people.
What was Moses' response? "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?" Eventually Moses did go, but not until he argued with God about it.
Are you still arguing with God?
When the Lord calls you to a mission, whether large or small, don't argue. Just step out in faith and leave the rest to God, and He will use you for GOod.
"If by a still, small voice He calls to paths I do not know,
I'll answer, dear Lord, with my hand in Yours,
I'll go where You want me to go."
