"Hang On and Obtain Your Promise"
Do you feel like you have no direction for your life or are you still waiting for God to fulfill His promise to you?The Bible is full of encouragement and direction and as we daily prayerfully read it and seek the Lord Jesus Christ, we will find direction for our life and obtain our promise.
In the Old Testament Caleb was one of many who came out of Egyptian slavery. At age 40 he was one of the 12 spies sent to spy out the Promised Land before the children of Israel were to enter it. He saw the Promised Land and could hardly wait to return there. However ten of the spies reported not to enter and terrified the Israelis to the point where they wanted to kill Caleb and Joshua (Numbers 14:10). God intervened by saving Caleb and Joshua's life but in turn caused the Israelis (including Caleb and Joshua) to wander in the wilderness for 40 years until those who rebelled were dead.
Here was Caleb in the midst of this. He had seen the land God promised to give them and he wanted to take the land. But due to circumstances beyond his control, he traveled for forty years in the wilderness with a group of rebellious losers to watch them complain and finally die.
At the end of the 40 years, he was included with the winners and crossed into the Promised Land. Even though he was now with the winners, Caleb needed to assist and fight the enemy for five more years before receiving his portion. Here is Caleb, now 85 years old, 45 years after he had spied out the Promise Land and he is finally receiving his promise.
Joshua 14:10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. (85 years old)
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. KJV
The moral of the story is this: Seek the Lord for your promise. Write out your promise and hang it in a prominent place so that when circumstances beyond your control arrive on the scene and you are forced into a wilderness experience, you can persevere no matter how long it takes, reach the winning side, fight the good fight, and obtain your promise.
Just remember the time allotted for each of God's children to receive their promise is in the hands of the Lord. Eccl 3:1 There is a right time for everything. (The Living Bible). To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. (King James Version). So hang in there, read your Bible, seek the Lord Jesus Christ, and obtain your promise.
